Brett Roy Gingold has lived in Greenwich Village since the 1980’s. A self-taught artist, he began creating “outsider” art in 2008.

Brett Gingold had a decades-long career in the NYC Meatpacking District. Up to that point, he spent his life on the peripheries of the art scene from the dynamic West Village to the serenity of the Hamptons. Influenced by a lifelong exposure to the art world through museums and galleries, Brett was equally inspired by his mother’s commitment to collecting and her appreciation for both contemporary and emerging artists.

In 2008, Brett embraced his innate desire to paint and immersed himself on a journey of artistic exploration – to create art became his passion. His paintings manifest his quirky and original sensibility; his one-of-a-kind works reflect his abstract expressionist process. This self-taught, very private outsider artist harnessed his natural talent, stepping out of the comfort of the shadows into the public realm with abstracts, geometrics and self-portraits. This culminated in a prodigious portfolio revealing a sense of fearlessness in his images.

Brett’s pieces can be described as elusive, poetic, provocative, playful and imaginative. He gives us a glimpse of his essence, but purposefully does not dictate a clear narrative. His focus on aesthetics like color, form, texture and scale creates a curiosity about him, but even more so about the breadth of our own creativity.

There is no question that his portfolio moves us with the power it evokes. Brett’s work fosters active engagement. Does the painting reveal the future? Do we even know why we are moved? Maybe we are connecting to its hidden meaning. Slowly, the paintings will reveal their truths, but for now, Brett deepens the mystery by not interfering with the viewing experience.
