Billie Holiday in the studio
Regarded as one of the most accomplished jazz bassists of the 20th century, Milt Hinton got his start with the Cab Calloway Band and went on to play with many other jazz greats. Eventually CBS invited him to be a staff musician, making him one of the first African Americans to be welcomed into a television studio. Hinton combined his passion for music with a love of photography, and over his career he captured many unforgettable moments of American jazz history. Here he photographed Billie Holiday at her last recording session in New York in 1959.
